EMS in physiotherapy

Muscle electrostimulation has been used for a long time, but thanks to more and more innovative solutions, using much better equipment, it is also beginning to be used to treat more and more advanced disease states.

The use of electrostimulation allows you to stimulate the muscles and the nervous system, which gives you the opportunity to improve mobility, reduce muscle soreness, strengthen the muscles, and also forces additional blood flow through the muscles. The use of this method therefore gives a chance for an accelerated rehabilitation process in a situation where we are talking about significant muscle weakness as a result of injury or disease. As one example, it can be pointed out that EMS personal training significantly reduces back pain. In some cases, EMS clients have even reported complete relief from their back pain.

In situations where the patient suffers from partial paralysis and is unable to contract or work the muscles on their own, EMS stimulation allows external activation of the muscles by performing isometric exercises. This type of activity does not strain the joints and provides a significant increase in muscle strength and perception.

In a situation where the patient can move at a sufficient level, EMS therapy can be enriched with simple exercises requiring shortening and lengthening of muscles.

However, when our goal is to re-educate the nervous system, we can use a specially adapted EMS program, using e.g. lower frequency of impulses – it does not force full muscle tension and reduces training intensity.
